Shamanic Yoga

The system of healing, known as Shamanic Yoga, was compiled by Athanasia Medenas—yogini, healer, and shamanic practitioner. Combining the earth-based wisdom of shamanism, along with the basic structure of the yogic path, Shamanic Yoga heals the connection between mind, body and spirit into a peaceful and euphoric state of being. 

Specializing in transformational retreats, private sessions and an online spiritual academy (registration opening January 2025), we create sacred space to transcend the mind, body and spirit into a peaceful and euphoric state of being.

There are many shamanic practices and lineages around the world, just as there are various yogic lineages that flourish globally. Shamanic Yoga is a practice of one’s own connection to the animistic perspective from shamanism that everything in the universe has energy, or life-force (in yoga known as prana), with their preferred yogic lineage of choice. 

One may be a mesa carrier from the Peruvian lineages while practicing Bhakti yoga or another may find deep connections with the Bushman of Botswana and practice Hatha yoga. The many paths that are possible in connecting shamanism and yoga is a unique and personal development that occurs over time through daily practice and experience. 

Ultimately, Shamanic Yoga is a state of being. It is both a practice and participation in life as the most sacred ceremony of all. Practicing and participating in shamanic ritual and ceremony, as well as yoga class and retreats, one can commune with the Divine Creator of the Universe in the sanctuary of their own home or in a community of like-hearted people. 

The union of the breath and the controlling of the mind (citta vrtti nirodhah) that yoga teaches, blended with altered states of consciousness reached through shamanic journeywork, one can be elevated to a transcended state of beingness. Unity consciousness becomes an embodiment rather than a theory.

The shamanic path manifests through our direct life experiences and evolves through ceremony, ritual and communion with Nature and the Universe. As we grow and ascend, going through an internal purification process, we metamorphosize the self by transcending old habits, perpetual/unconscious patterns and limiting ways of existing on this planet. 

Our breath is the most significant medicine in both shamanism and yoga. Through the magic of breathing in the elements; breathing in nature; we deepen our relationship with our true Self. We can be in full alignment with the Universe to manifest and create our lives to live fully in harmony with all beings, plants, elements, Mother Earth, Father Sky and the Universe. Shamanic Yoga not only engages us to remember who we really are, but also, allows us to truly live fully with every breath.
